Course Syllabus
  • Lesson 1: Designing for Multiple Formats and Devices

    • Use the Page tool and Pages panel to manage page sizes and alternate layouts
    • Apply liquid layout rules (object-based, re-center, scale, guide-based) to control how content reflows when pages are resized
    • Create alternate layouts for different devices and orientations within the same document
    • Use the Content Collector and Content Placer tools to duplicate and reuse objects across documents
    • Link placed content using Place and Link so updates to the source propagate automatically
    • Manage linked objects via the Links panel, including relinking, embedding, and viewing metadata
  • Lesson 2: Mastering Advanced Page Elements and Typography

    • Create repeating content using parent pages, including page numbers and recurring design elements
    • Apply advanced typography: kerning, tracking, justification, hyphenation, and baseline grids
    • Use spanning and splitting columns to control text flow across multi-column layouts
    • Create and apply transparency effects, blending modes, and feathering to objects
    • Anchor objects to text so they move with the text flow as content is edited
    • Build and manage an object library for reusable design assets
  • Lesson 3: Streamlining Your Workflow with Styles

    • Import paragraph and character styles from Microsoft Word documents into InDesign
    • Resolve style conflicts and map incoming Word styles to existing InDesign styles
    • Manage styles across a document: organize, rename, merge, and delete styles
    • Use the Find/Change dialog to locate and replace formatting and style attributes
    • Synchronize styles across multiple documents using the Book panel
  • Lesson 4: Creating Precision Paths and Custom Shapes

    • Create and edit Bezier paths using the Pen tool and path editing tools
    • Convert corner points to smooth points and modify path segments with precision
    • Create clipping paths to mask images within custom shapes
    • Build compound paths by combining multiple shapes to create complex cutout effects
    • Flow text on a path and convert type to outlines for graphic use
  • Lesson 5: Working with External Files and Interactive Content

    • Import external files including Word documents, spreadsheets, and XML content
    • Create document sections with independent page numbering and section markers
    • Insert and manage text variables such as running headers, file names, and creation dates
    • Build interactive documents with buttons, hyperlinks, page transitions, and animation
    • Embed audio and video files for interactive PDF and digital publishing output
  • Lesson 6: Managing Long Documents and Publications

    • Create and manage a Book file to combine multiple InDesign documents into a single publication
    • Build an automatic table of contents using paragraph styles and the TOC dialog
    • Create hyperlinks and cross-references that update automatically as content changes
    • Generate an index using index markers, topics, and the Generate Index dialog
    • Insert and format footnotes within long-form documents
  • Lesson 7: Publishing for Print, Web, and Digital Distribution

    • Export PDF files for print using PDF/X standards, bleed settings, and printer marks
    • Export interactive PDF files with buttons, hyperlinks, bookmarks, and media
    • Export files for the web including EPUB and HTML formats
    • Manage color profiles and assign output color settings for consistent color reproduction
    • Preview print output using the Separations Preview and Overprint Preview panels
    • Create and save custom print presets for repeatable, consistent print output

Prerequisites
  • Completion of Adobe InDesign Introduction Training (IND0101) or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Familiarity with InDesign text frames, placing graphics, the Pages panel, and basic paragraph styles
