Learning Objectives
  • Create and edit raster images using advanced brush, gradient, and tool preset techniques
  • Draw and manipulate vector paths and shapes using the Pen tool and shape drawing tools
  • Work with type layers, apply typography principles, and create type special effects
  • Apply advanced layer techniques including layer masks, vector masks, clipping masks, and Smart Objects
  • Add artistic and special effects to images using filters, Smart Filters, and layer styles
  • Automate repetitive tasks by recording and applying Photoshop Actions and batch processing files
  • Edit video in Photoshop using the Timeline panel, add graphics and titles, and export finished video
  • Identify project requirements, apply copyright rules, and manage project tasks and responsibilities

Course Syllabus
  • Lesson 1: Paint and Draw with Precision

    • Understand the difference between raster and vector images and when to use each; review resolution, DPI, and how upscaling raster images causes quality loss
    • Use the Brush tool and Pencil tool to paint with soft and hard edges; configure brush options including mode, opacity, flow, and smoothing
    • Work with specialized raster tools: Color Replacement, Mixer Brush, History Brush, and Art History Brush for realistic and stylized painting effects
    • Use Clone Stamp and Pattern Stamp tools to copy pixels and paint with patterns; use Eraser, Background Eraser, and Magic Eraser to remove and isolate image areas
    • Create and customize gradients using the Gradient Editor; apply linear, radial, angle, reflected, and diamond gradient styles to images and layers
    • Save and manage tool presets to standardize and speed up repetitive workflows; load, create, and organize presets in the Tool Presets panel
  • Lesson 2: Master Vector Tools and Typography

    • Understand vector paths and their advantages for scalable, sharp-edged artwork; use the Pen tool and Freeform Pen tool to draw precise paths and curves
    • Edit paths using anchor points, direction handles, and the Direct Selection tool; convert between smooth and corner anchor points
    • Use shape drawing tools (Rectangle, Ellipse, Polygon, Line, Custom Shape) to create vector shapes; configure fill, stroke, and shape options
    • Understand basic typography principles: typeface, font, point size, leading, kerning, and tracking
    • Create and edit point type and paragraph type using the Horizontal and Vertical Type tools; format text with the Character and Paragraph panels
    • Apply type special effects: warp text, create text on a path, convert type to a shape, and apply layer styles to type layers
  • Lesson 3: Take Full Control of Layers and Effects

    • Use layer masks to non-destructively hide and reveal parts of an image; paint on masks with black, white, and gray to control transparency
    • Apply vector masks to constrain layer content to a path shape; use clipping masks to clip one layer's content to the shape of the layer below
    • Apply filters from the Filter Gallery to add artistic, distortion, and texture effects; understand destructive vs. non-destructive filter application
    • Use Smart Filters on Smart Object layers for fully editable, non-destructive filter effects; modify or remove Smart Filters at any time
    • Apply layer styles (Drop Shadow, Inner Glow, Bevel and Emboss, Stroke, Gradient Overlay) to enhance layers with special effects
    • Convert layers to Smart Objects to enable non-destructive transformations and Smart Filter workflows; understand the benefits of Smart Objects for complex compositions
  • Lesson 4: Work Smarter with Automation

    • Record, save, and play back Photoshop Actions to automate repetitive sequences of commands; organize actions into Action Sets
    • Edit and refine recorded actions by inserting stops, menu items, and conditional steps; use the Actions panel to manage and share action sets
    • Use the Batch command in Photoshop to apply an action to an entire folder of image files automatically
    • Use Adobe Bridge to batch process files: apply actions, rename files, and export processed images to a destination folder in a single operation
  • Lesson 5: Edit Video Inside Photoshop

    • Open and work with video files in Photoshop; understand the Timeline panel and how video layers, audio tracks, and transitions are organized
    • Trim, split, and rearrange video clips on the timeline; adjust clip duration and set in/out points for precise editing
    • Add transitions between clips; control transition duration and style within the Timeline panel
    • Add graphic layers, text titles, and still images to video compositions; apply motion effects and keyframe-based animation to graphic elements
    • Export finished video using the Render Video dialog; choose output format, codec, frame rate, and resolution for web or broadcast delivery
  • Lesson 6: Manage Projects Like a Professional

    • Identify project purpose, target audience, and audience needs; document client goals and project requirements before beginning design work
    • Review and interpret project requirement documents; compare finished deliverables against original specifications to ensure alignment
    • Understand copyright law as it applies to digital artwork, photography, and graphics; distinguish between public domain, licensed, and rights-managed content
    • Identify proper attribution practices and licensing requirements for stock images, fonts, and third-party assets used in Photoshop projects
    • Determine project management tasks and responsibilities: define scope, set milestones, allocate resources, and manage revision cycles
    • Evaluate project outcomes against requirements; understand how effective project management keeps timelines, budgets, and deliverable quality on track
